National Regulatory Mapping
regulatory mapping initiative
The Smart Surfaces Coalition is proud to partner with the Sabin Center at Columbia Law School, a national coalition of leading firms working together through the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance, and Dentons to tackle the regulatory hurdles to Smart Surfaces adoption.
These groups are working together to map the regulatory obstacles and existing best practices, as well as develop new codes, to accelerate Smart Surfaces adoption. This crucial work will enable the United States’ 18,000 cities and towns who want to make their cities/towns healthier, safer, more equitable, and more resilient to actually adopt and implement Smart Surfaces.
Policy mapping with the Sabin Center has culminated in the development of the Smart Surfaces Policy Tracker — a searchable database containing policy examples from all 50 states where Smart Surface elements are implemented to mitigate extreme heat, manage stormwater, provide recreational space, and more.
