Alexander Azan, MD
Smart Surface Scholar
Dr. Alex Azan is board-certified in internal medicine, serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Investigation at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and is a T32 postdoctoral research fellow in the NYU Langone Health Department of Population Health.
Grounded in the tenants of environmental justice, Dr. Azan’s research examines the impacts of climate change on health and health equity related to structural and intermediary determinants of health. As a T32 fellow, he has employed advanced geospatial and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate the neighborhood-level health impacts of various land use and traffic-related climate resiliency policies in New York City.
As a Smart Surfaces Scholar, Dr. Azan will pursue translational, policy-oriented, mixed-methods research to examine to heat-related health impacts of urban smart surface interventions in vulnerable populations (i.e., young children and elderly adults).
